The Waves Dugan Speech plug-in is the new official software version of the Dugan automixer for automatic control of multiple mic gains, designed for integrated use inside the eMotion LV1 live console. Powered by Dan Dugan’s patented voice-activated process, Dugan Speech controls the gains of multiple microphones automatically and in real-time, dramatically reducing noise, feedback, and comb filtering from adjacent microphones. Dugan Speech maintains consistent gain, even when several speakers are talking at the same time. It generates matched crossfades, without any signal compression, and without a noise gate that would cause undesirable artefacts. The plug-in is capable of auto-mixing up to 64 channels simultaneously.

Also new from Waves is the Abbey Road Vinyl plug-in which models Abbey Road Studios’ vinyl cutting and playback gear to give some vintage vinyl warmth to your recordings. The plug-in lets you choose between the sound of a pure acetate (lacquer) cut or the print master vinyl pressing from the factory; play the records on two distinct turntable types with a choice of three classic cartridges; and even send your tracks through Abbey Road’s legendary TG12410 mastering console on the path into the vinyl lathe. It even les you move the position of the tone arm across the record, resulting in a change in frequency response and distortion. You can add vinyl noise pops and crackles, apply a gradual slow-down/stop effects, and add wow and flutter effects.

Thirdly, Waves’ new Primary Source Expander plug-in lets you reduce stage bleed and sensitivity to feedback when a mic is idle by automatically lowering mic levels between musical phrases — ideal for live sound and mixing live recordings. In its purest form, Primary Source Expander is an expander that’s tailored especially for melodic sources such as vocals, guitars, strings, brass, woodwinds and more. You can determine both the threshold and the amount of attenuation. Reducing stage noise leakage when microphones are idle will help get a cleaner mix overall that’s more focused and has better phase relations. PSE also provides advanced sidechain and ducking controls for greater consistency and precision when treating complex live scenarios.
