VOXBOX IN THE BOX
One of the most coveted (and pricey) modern classic channel strips has made it into Universal Audio’s powered plug-ins list exclusively for Apollo interfaces and UAD-2 hardware.
As the name suggests, the Manley Voxbox is designed primarily for vocal production. The 3U hardware version is an entirely tube-based circuit and incorporates a mic preamp, vactrol optical compressor, Pultec-style passive EQ, and de-esser/limiter. The UAD Voxbox plug-in models every section of the classic channel strip to give you pretty much everything you need to craft your vocal sound in the one piece of software.
If you’re an Apollo user you can track in real-time using the channel strip plug-in. Manley Voxbox also support UAD’s Unison technology so your craving for authenticity is satisfied with legit impedance, gain staging, and circuit behaviour.
UAD’s Manley Voxbox is part of the release of UAD software v8.7. Another major plug-in addition is the Ampeg B-15N Bass Amplifier plug-in, also exclusively for Apollo and UAD-2 hardware. The Ampeg name needs no introduction, and the B-15 played a huge part in defining the sound of recorded electric bass. The 30W 1 x 15 all-tube combo is known for its warm and fat fundamental note that appears throughout ’60s and ’70s rock, funk and soul. The Ampeg B-15N plug-in was developed by Brainworx and emulates the circuitry and character of the original. Again, Apollo users can use it to track bass in real-time.
