The Worst Demo Compilation in the History of the World

The story goes, in the mid-1980s a UK record company made (for internal use only), a compilation of the absolute worst songs they had ever been sent, from the thousands of demo tapes they had receive up until that time.

Somehow it got out and as things were done in the 80s, the tape was copied and shared around, but was soon forgotten. And it would have stayed that way, just a very distant memory, that is until four days ago.

Last week actor Peter Serafinowicz contacted good friend, filmmaker Robert Popper, with his long-lost copy of the demo tape. The actor had found the tape inside an old box in the his office.  Popper had been obsessed with the terrible demo compilation for years (you can read his blog here) and was delighted that Serafinowicz had found his copy.

Popper said (on his blog post) regarding the tape “as someone who has heard loads of terrible demo tape complilations [sic], this one is definitely the best/worst. Get ready for the dullest rendition of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, a spooky lady singing about ‘Alfreston’ while playing the organ, and the genuinely terrifying end track, ‘All the People With the Money’.”

Uploading it to Youtube, Popper unleashed it on the masses four days ago and in that time it’s received almost 30,000 views. It really is an hilarious example of true cringe, that needed sharing with the world.

So, without further ado, here is twenty-five minutes of some very, very dodgy tunes.
