SOUNDELUX U99 67-STYLE TUBE MIC
A new microphone is on display at the Soundelux NAMM stand. It’s the U99, a multi-pattern tube mic with a K67 dual symmetrical backplate, dual membrane capsule and a signature Soundelux ‘Fat’ switch borrowed from the U195, and a new HF ‘boost-flat-cut’ switch for more tonal shaping possibilities. Soundelux says it’s a natural on vocals, acoustic instruments, and drums thanks to an onboard pad switch. The added benefit of being able to set the brightness and fullness characteristics via switches means more flexibility for you, the recording engineer, when it comes to obtaining the sound in your head.
The U99 uses a ‘new old stock’ tube and true linear high current power. The electronics circuit differs from the vintage 67 in its departure from non-removable frequency shaping components and the removal of gain controlling negative feedback. It also has a larger output transformer to increase the low frequency headroom. The mic comes with its own shockmount and proprietary N470 power supply. Availability is forecasted as March 2017 and RRP is US$2599.
