SINGLE MALT MUSIC
Most bands sound better after you’ve had a few drinks, but this might be a little extreme. High-end audio and hi-fi manufacturer Linn has partnered with Scottish whiskey distillery Highland Park to create a Limited Edition Sondek LP12 Turntable. Ah… what? Well, it’s a record player made from original solid oak whiskey casks. Drink enough whiskey and it makes perfect sense. The turntable celebrates 40 years since the birth of Linn and the Sondek LP12, the “revolutionary turntable that changed the world of hi-fi forever”. This might be no idle boast since the first Sondek LP12 released in 1972 (take a wild guess at what inspired the LP12 name) has been cited by some experts as the second most significant turntable ever manufactured. The reason? Mostly it’s about the chassis suspension design and single-point bearing system employed, but also because it was innovative when Linn had an epiphany that the quality of turntable was just as important as the hi-fi speakers. With only forty Limited Edition Sondek LP12 Turntables available worldwide, they’re expected to be snapped up even with a price tag of $51,295. If you’re undecided – not quite sure it’s worthwhile, you’ll also get a special bottle of Highland Park 40 Year Old, designed exclusively for Linn, chucked in the box. Only in Scotland would they consider that a deal-maker.
