RODE’S FIRST INTERFACE: AI-1

By

5 December 2017

Rode Microphones may have to ditch that second word because the company is now in the interface game. The diminutive AI-1 USB interface box has a single microphone input with a Class A preamp that offers 45dB gain and +48V phantom power. The same Neutrik combo connector can act as a DI for bass or guitars. Two TRS outputs on the rear let you connect a pair of monitors and this output is mirrored through the 6.5mm headphones socket on the front. Controls are plain — one knob for preamp gain, the other for output level. No mute/dim switches, no preamp pad or HPF, no Mix knob for input monitoring — this is barebones recording at its barest. Sold as the Rode Complete Studio Kit, the AI-1 interface comes with an NT1 condenser mic, shockmount, XLR cable, USB-C/A cables, and a version of Ableton Live Lite.
