RØDE Microphones has purchased the acclaimed FiRe audio recording application for Apple iOS devices, from US-based developer Audiofile Engineering. Audiofile are considered one of the world’s best audio software development studios across all iOS platforms and by Peter Freedman writing out the cheque this acquisition now puts Rode right in the box seat for iOS-based audio recording innovation and expertise. Under the terms of the agreement, Rode has taken complete ownership of the app as well as the fundamental code to continue to refine new and innovative software. First job on the whiteboard – over the next few months Rode will release improved versions of its existing app based on the FiRe platform, RØDE Rec, and is “working on new, advanced hardware”. That prompted us to ask if there was any progress towards an iPhone 5-compatible iXY microphone and got the reply that a Lightning connector-compatible iXY was “in development”. No doubt, lots of other interesting things will be in the pipeline with this amalgamation and we’ll be keeping a close watch on Rode’s iOS department.

Audiofile Engineering will continue to support FiRE customers while the transition is occurring.
