ON SOUNDCLOUD
Soundcloud CEO Alex Ljung has just announced the company’s new partnership with content creators, called On SoundCloud.
According to Ljung, the new partnership lays a foundation for content creators to make money from their work by placing advertisements throughout the platform. The partnership works in three streams, free (up to 3 hours of content), paid (up to 6 hours of content) and Premiere (unlimited). Those with the ‘Premiere Partnership’ option will be able to make money from their work on the platform.
Ljung has not stated how or where the new ads will be placed, just that, “When someone sees or hears an ad, they’re supporting an artist.”
Which gives a small hint that audio (along with visual) advertisement may be part of what the platform has planned, possibly the way in which Spotify and other music platforms play audio advertisements from time to time. It’s also possible that SoundCloud will produce the kinds of advertising we see done on Youtube, in that an ad is played before you can access the video (or in this case, music).
Currently, the On SoundCloud, ‘Premiere Partnership’ program is only by invitation, to a small selection of uses.
