LIVING LA VIDA
Kling & Freitag has announced a new line array speaker system with beam steering – Vida.
Vida is a full-range-compatible, modular 3-way line array speaker system, each module has 48 DSP channels and 48 class D amps, with modules arranged coaxially. Including a 6.5-inch driver (for lows), a 3.5-inch driver (for mids) and 1-inch domes (for highs). With 32 tweeter domes per metre (in high frequency) that K&F says, are kept purposely close together to achieve clean sound radiation characteristics, with little to no physically induced artefacts (about 10 kHz). Which should add an improvement to beam steering the system.
The system also includes a cardioid module, to compensate for low frequency reproduction and inadequate rear attenuation in the low / mid range found in many line array systems. The signal feed can be analogue, digital over AES/EBU, or via Dante. Redundant wiring is also integrated in the system (via special logic), along with the ability to incline the beam electronically using either one of two algorithms; one of which is based on the FIR filter (FIR-Maker). You can also combine a mechanical incline with the electronic incline.
A prototype of the new Vida system will be on display next week in Cologne, Germany, at the 28th sound engineering convention.
