NAMM: COME ON FEEL THE NOISE

It always feels great to have a rumbling meaty amp stack sitting behind you on stage, but not everyone has the budget to afford it. This is where Porter & Davies KT Platform enters, stage left.

Similar to ‘shaker stools’, used by drummers, the new tactile monitor, launching at this week’s NAMM show, uses Kinetic Transfer for the transmission of sound. Enabling musicians to feel and hear their playing internally, instead of relying on in-ear monitors and other traditional methods.

The platform gives a full transfer of the sound through bone conduction, adding weight to the sound with zero lag. The company says that it’s a lot more than just a low-end rumble too, all notes, including harmonics, are faithfully transmitted.

Ideally suited to bass players, the platform can also be used by DJs, guitarists, stand-up keyboard players and percussionists, allowing musicians to literally ‘feel’ their instrument. Alternatively, you could take a mix from the monitor board, to stay synced to drums, for example. The platform is driven by any one of the three P&D engines the Gigster, BC2 and BC2rm.

Jools Holland bassist Dave Swift recently said about the product: “The addition of my KT Platform has enhanced my onstage playing experience beyond anything I could’ve imagined… It has become as crucial onstage as my bass itself! I won’t use in ear monitors without [its] addition.”

The KT Platform will be on show at NAMM 2015, Booth #3476 Hall D, in Anaheim California, from this Thursday, Jan 22nd.
