Soyuz introduces the 1973, its first budget-minded LDC microphone.

Soyuz Microphones has unleashed the 1973, a microphone that is unique in the market as it manages to be both fully handmade and relatively affordable. This large diaphragm condenser mic is the brand’s most budget-conscious LDC to date with a price tag of US$799. The 1973 is inspired by the classic age of FET microphones and uses a version of the brand’s 023 Bomblet capsule.
“We wanted to create a new microphone that retained the high quality of our other products while making it more affordable for bedroom music makers and project studios,” says Soyuz Microphones’ co-founder, David Brown.
Inspired by the golden age of FET mics, the 1973 features a capsule whose lineage can be traced back to the early 1970s when LOMO redesigned an AKG CK12 capsule, giving it three backplates to increase consistency. Soyuz’ engineers further developed it into what has come to be known as the S23, a capsule that is truly unique and has a character all its own.
The 1973’s body is a new design for Soyuz, but like all Soyuz products, its dimensions are based on the Golden Ratio. The microphone sits comfortably between the brand’s flagship 017 Series and 013 Series. The 1973’s compact form factor will allow engineers and music makers to fit the microphone into tight quarters, making it the perfect option for everything from drums and guitar amps to vocals and piano.
“When you buy a 1973, you’re getting a Soyuz in every sense of the word,” states Brown. “Expect lows that are present but not boomy, a forward midrange that’s never boxy and highs that are airy and open, but never harsh.” As with all Soyuz products, the 1973 is completely machined by hand and assembled in the brand’s own production facility.
The 1973 is now available at Soyuz retailers around the world.
