Blue Microphones has made a name for itself, creating products that appeal to both small and great. Models like the Bluebird and Reactor are favourites amongst home studio owners, whereas the Kiwi and flagship Blue Bottle mics can be found in some of the world’s finest recording facilities. Introducing the Hummingbird, the most recent addition to Blue’s line – a fixed cardioid, class-A, small-diaphragm condenser. Featuring the B1 capsule from the interchangeable Bottle Cap series, the Hummingbird’s stand-out feature is its 180º rotating head, making it ultra-flexible when miking hi-hats, overheads, acoustic guitar, snare, piano, percussion and more. The specs are all you’d expect; 20Hz-20kHz frequency response, maximum SPL handling of 130dB making it great for drums, and a whisper-quiet self-noise of 8.5dBA. Blue claims the mic has excellent off-axis rejection and sharp transient response, and its small size means it’s ideal for placing in tight spaces. The Hummingbird will go for USD$299.
