BEHRINGER DOES IT BOTH WAYS
It’s been lurking on Behringer’s website for a while and available now for a few weeks. Behringer’s new FCA1616 audio interface offers a choice of either USB or Firewire connectivity (in the same device, not as two different models) and the four front-panel preamps are Midas designed. Inside you’ll find Cirrus Logic converters, so you’re looking at a top-notch signal path so far. Another four TRS line inputs on the rear make for eight I/O, but it’s the digital connection and compatibility with Behringer’s own ADA8200 that ups the I/O’s to 16 as the name FCA1616 suggests. A nice feature is the eight external insert points over the inputs, something you don’t see often nowadays. There’s also two separate headphone outs. Owning an FCA1616 gives you access to a bunch of downloadable goodies from www.behringer.com including free audio recording, editing and podcasting software plus 150 instrument/effect plug-ins. The RRP in Oz is $499.99.
