AT5045 TWO-ELEMENT INSTRUMENT MICROPHONE
Audio-Technica’s has released a new addition to the flagship 50 Series range of microphones – the AT5045 instrument microphone.
Essentially, the 5045 is a two-element version of its popular four-element AT5040 microphone, and is a ‘pencil-type’ large-diaphragm, electret, side-address, condenser instrument microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. Hand made at the company’s Machida, Tokyo factory, the new mic also features fast transient response, low noise, wide dynamic range (141 dB), and is able to handle high sound pressure levels (149 dB SPL40).
The dual elements of the 5045 have been mounted in a long, thin shell, giving the mic a controlled cardioid pickup pattern combined with flexible positioning. Both the 5040 and 5045 contain the company’s proprietary 2 micron thick, rectangular diaphragm, which are mounted adjacent to each other and linked to operate as a single device. A-T says that when configured like this, the combined surface area is greater than what is achieved in large round diaphragms.
The internal shock mounting has also had an upgrade on the 5045, after the company found a more effective way to decouple the capsule from the mic body, then isolating it with new shock mounts.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The AT5045, (including AT8481 clamp, AT8482 shock mount, windshield and hard-shell, padded carry case) will retail for A$1,999.
