Earlier this year, Newcastle’s Musos Corner launched its new state of the art 90º Studio Training Academy and Technical Services. Now the studio is about to undergo an upgrade to a Pro Tools HD Native System, partially due to the fact Musos Corner has just become an official Avid dealer.

The Academy already features a fully functional recording studio showroom and control room, as well as practice and training rooms, with course work covering the full gamut of professional audio production.

Back in August, we wrote about Allon Silove, Facility Director and Andrew Lindsay, studio owner, working together with Amber Technology’s Daniel Sievert, on creating an acoustic treatment for the facility’s stylised square rooms (you can read that, here). Using a 3D model of the studio, the trio incorporated a “substantial amount of infostructure” into their treatment plan. In order for it to work harmoniously with the studio’s construction, whilst still allowing flexibility for any layout or setup changes that may come at a later time. A Primacoustic line of acoustic treatments were installed, with some rooms featuring Fulltraps mounted flat on the walls. The control room now also features a mix of Scatter Blocks and Control Columns to offset the two large screens that are mounted on the front wall.

The next chapter of upgrades will see a Pro Tools HD Native System installed into the control room, running in sync with Steinberg’s Nuendo and Yamaha’s Nuage Console. The upgrades are in addition to the already installed Audinate Dante system (with to 512 channels of bidirectional audio channels) combined with Yamaha R series I/Os, Focusrite remote-controllable pre-amps and RedNet 5 audio interface (which can route up to 192 in/outputs to Pro Tools HDX).

The studio has scored some serious hardware for their students and are already planning to deliver new Pro Tools training courses next year.

As Director of the Faculty, Allon Silove said, “It takes a lot of time and effort, knowledge and experience to become a good sound engineer. Even longer to become a great producer. We are here to try and help bridge that gap between having the technology and actually knowing how to use it!”
