2017 ARIA NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
The 2017 ARIA Awards nominees have been revealed seven weeks before the big day. The Awards will be presented on Tuesday 28th November at The Star Event Centre, Sydney and broadcast around Australia on the Nine Network.
The nominations event was held yesterday morning (October 10th) at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Paul Kelly took out two Artisan ARIA Awards for Engineer of the Year and Best Cover Art, along with receiving seven nominations. Sydney five-piece band Gang of Youths led the day with eight nominations in categories Apple Music Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album, Best Video, Best Australian Live Act, Producer of the Year, Engineer of the Year, and Best Cover Art. The band’s number one ARIA album Go Farther In Lightness took them on a national tour playing to sell-out audiences which received rave reviews from fans and media.
Hip hop duo A.B. Original was nominated for six awards after taking out last year’s 12th Australian Music Prize and the album’s lead single January 26 reached number 16 on Triple J’s Hottest 100. Amy Shark from the Gold Coast received six nominations for her work over the past year, with her EP Night Thinker peaking at number two on the ARIA charts. Also with six nominations, Jessica Mauboy earned a place in the ARIAs for the seventh year straight.
