Neural DSP has launched Archetype: Nolly X, the next iteration of the original Archetype: Nolly plugin, continuing its acclaimed series of collaborations with the world’s most musically and technologically adventurous musicians.

A powerhouse in the modern metal scene known for his unparalleled contributions as a bassist, producer, and mixing engineer, Adam “Nolly” Getgood’s talents extend to the intimate elements of music technology, even teaching himself electronics to re-engineer his favorite amplifiers for the perfect guitar tone.

This upgraded plugin includes a slew of new updates, including pedal upgrades; a brand new room reverb module; four additional speaker options; a new “Nolly’s Mod” graphic EQ; a redesigned UI; the latest global features such as Transpose, Doubler, Metronome, and Live Tuner; new artist presets; and soon-to-come Quad Cortex compatibility.

Pre Effects

Archetype: Nolly X features a rich collection of effects placed before the amplifier section — Compressor, Overdrive-1, Delay-1, and Overdrive-2 — including a new bright switch for Overdrive-1, offering extra articulation and clarity. Two different overdrive/booster pedals, along with a solid-state compressor and a delay, provide creative flexibility and ample potential for precise tone sculpting and experimentation.

Amps

On the power side, four state-of-the-art tube amplifier models of Nolly’s own modified amplifiers are at the core of this plugin. Perfectly modeled for an uncannily authentic feel, they encompass the vast tonal range the modern guitarist or producer requires for any type of music.

• Clean — Crystal-clear, well-defined tones, this head is the perfect canvas for nuanced, dynamic playing.
• Crunch — Classic British crunch with a twist, this head offers a clear, defined attack with rich harmonics.
• Rhythm — Massive sounding, this head provides enough dynamic range for rhythms and full-on leads.
• Lead — This amp head provides a unique high-gain flavor, equally useful for heavy rhythms and leads.

Cabsim

The virtual speaker section is this plugin’s secret weapon, boasting hundreds of impulse responses captured by Nolly himself using his favorite microphones. Archetype: Nolly X features four new speaker options, one per cab, drastically expanding even the tonal options in the plugin.

• Cab 1 now has an open-backed cab option that sounds more resonant in the mids and has less low end than the existing speaker.
• Cab 2 has a mid-70s creamback H option that sounds very classic.
• Cab 3 has an additional V30 from 2000, captured in the top position of an angled cab so that the tone is focused and huge.
• Cab 4 now has a 2×12 with V30s that sounds amazing for leads.

Equalization

Ideal for detailed spectral adjustment, the onboard 9-band graphic equalizer allows for precise and nuanced control over frequency response. Archetype: Nolly X includes the signature new “Nolly’s Mod” graphic EQ, which adds custom Q parameters (controls the bandwidth – how wide or narrow the boost or cut will be) that enable some truly creative EQ boosting.
