Based in Boston, Matt Tytel is a software synthesiser developer who mainly focusses on open-source projects. He also creates computer-aided art and music where software generated musical segments are spliced together to create full poems and songs. In Tytel’s other artistic endeavours he uses patterns generated from simulations of naturally occurring structures in physics and the natural world — such as cloth, water, centipedes, and flowers — to create the basic forms that serve as a foundation to his work.

Tytel’s Helm is a free and open-source polyphonic synthesizer with lots of modulation, and has a focus on its ease of use, tweakability, and its live visual feedback. The synth features dual oscillators and a formant filter, which serves as a useful tool for sound design, or creating organic sounding basslines. Helm is released as VST, AU, LV2, and standalone.
