Ohm Force: Symptohm PE
A free sample-based synth with ’sync grain’ oscillators.
Ohm Force was founded in 2000 by a couple of friends who were well-versed with digital music, and freshly graduated from engineering school. They had an ambitious goal in mind: to create an online collaborative DAW so that people all over the world could make music together. It did not take long to realise how complex a project this was, but far from surrendering, they decided to pursue their dream on a longer-term basis.
Symptohm PE is a unique synth plugin from Ohm Force. This ‘Performer Edition’ version has distinctive features, including two sample-based ‘sync grain’ oscillators, the Melohman key-controlled preset morphing, and an unreasonable amount of filtering. The 1200+ presets sound exactly like they do on the standard edition — with the sophisticated synthesis engine running under the hood.
While you’ll have only just scratched the surface after going through thousands of patches, you’ll still have heard what the tip of the iceberg is capable of. The Oscillators buttons allow you to change the waveforms. The defaults are fine, but why not set your own samples? Be creative and add the Melohman feature to get a truly exciting and powerful tool.
Melohman technology lets you take advantage of full MIDI compatibility to command preset changes via a hardware controller, with the possibility to customise morphing speed. It is designed to support playability and expressive human feeling — perfect for live performance.
Ohm Force plugins come with two skins: the classic one gives you all the controls in a neat, old school analogue rack-like interface. It’s a good point to start learning and get familiar with the plugin’s capabilities. The other one, called ‘funky’, embodies the true spirit of Ohm Force.
