Greg Simmons

Greg Simmons is a sound engineer, audio educator and writer with 33 years of audio education experience backed by over 40 years of recording experience encompassing everything from heavy metal bands to string quartets, snake charmers to Tibetan monks, and children’s stories to talking dolls. He has also had extensive sound reinforcement experience including rock, pop, jazz, orchestral, chamber, folk and ethnic music, along with theatre, dance and performance art. Greg gave his first audio classes in 1985 at the Victorian Audio Education Centre (VAEC) in Melbourne. Since moving to Sydney in 1987, he has taught for the Audio Education Centre (AEC), the JMC Academy (JMC), and the Australian Institute of Music (AIM), and given presentations for the AFTRS and SAE Institute. He has taught thousands of students the finer points of sound engineering in an effort to pass on his enthusiasm for well-reproduced sound in every genre. Since 1987 Greg has been actively involved in writing, editing and publishing magazines for the Australian audio industry, working on titles including Sonics, Connections, CX, Australian Digital and Sound Australasia. As creator and Founding Editor of the prestigious Australian magazine AudioTechnology, he regularly contributes feature articles, interviews, tutorials and product reviews. He has often been published in major international magazines including AudioMedia and ProAudio Asia. Greg enjoys combining his sound engineering, educating and writing skills with his passion for travelling, and spends much of his spare time recording the music of Asia and the Himalaya. In the process, he has given numerous educational recording workshops throughout Asia and the Himalaya for high-profile microphone brands including Røde, AudioTechnica and DPA. He also enjoys writing about himself in the third person.
