u-he: Podolski

A free virtual-analogue synthesiser plugin.

9 November 2023

Initially starting as a one-man show, the u-he company has been designing synths and effects since 2001. It now consists of a team of dedicated developers, musicians, designers, and creators, whose many viewpoints, backgrounds, and experiences provide it with a rich, dynamic landscape. u-he’s plugins have the depth to satisfy the most discerning musicians, composers, and producers. The company also boasts an active and passionate group of customers and fans. This community is a place where users can get inspired or learn something new.

Created as a free gift for visitors to the u-he booth during Musikmesse 2005, Podolski is a free, CPU-efficient, virtual analogue synthesizer. Simple, but with a few tricks up its sleeve, it is a cut down version of FilterscapeVA — with just one oscillator, one filter, one envelope and two LFOs. It also features a Zebra-style arpeggiator/sequencer, plus chorus and delay effects. Podolski’s specialities are the Click parameter, which emphasises the filter attack, and its ‘WaveWarp’ ability to seamlessly morph between three waveforms.

For this current version, the factory library was overhauled, the TUC Toys soundset was integrated into the main library, all factory presets have been tagged and Podolski is now NKS-ready.

Features:
  • Oscillator with variable symmetry (sawtooth to triangle, PWM) and glide
  • Polyphonic (up to 16 voices), mono, legato and arpeggiator modes
  • 4 envelope modes. ADSR or HDSR, linear or exponential. Sustain has Fall/Rise control
  • Multimode filter. Lowpass, bandpass or highpass with drive and FM
  • Combination arpeggiator / 16-step sequencer with extra modulation source
  • Skinnable UI
  • Over 300 factory presets
