IT’S ALIVE – MUTATOR BACK FROM THE DEAD

Softube has reproduced the iconic 90s stereo analogue filter and envelope follower – the Mutronics Mutator.

The Mutator was originally based on the tech developed from the 60s analogue synths. It was used throughout the 90s, by alternative rockers and electronic dance music, defining the 90s sound of acts such as Radiohead, Beck, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack and countless others.

Unfortunately, an important component was discontinued by the manufacturer, which effectively killed the Mutator. Since then, it’s became a bit of a collectors piece, and the only way artists/engineers could get their hands on it was via auctions or eBay.

Softube working with Mutronics have resurrected all of the features of the original. such as an analogue voltage controlled filter (VCF) for each of its two channels (allowing the creation of synth-like filter sweeps), external sidechain input, Gate Mode (controlled via on-board LFOs, with four waveform envelopes).
