RODE NT-USB
RØDE has announce the NT-USB microphone, a studio-grade mic compatible with MacOS, Windows and iPad.
It’s been seven years since Røde released the Podcaster USB microphone (in 2007) which is still selling and was designed specifically for voice recording (with an end-address configuration). The new NT-USB is different in that it’s a side-address microphone and can be used for for recording musical performances as well as vocals.
As you would expect, the microphone is fully compatible with all mainstream recording applications and can be used with the iPad (using RØDE Rec, GarageBand, etc). The only issue with using it on the iPad is that you’ll need an additional adapter (USB to Lightning) to use the mic and as to Android tablets/phones, Røde haven’t mentioned whether the mic is usable on those smart devices. It seems like it should be, but the fact it isn’t mentioned as a selling point, it’s seems safer to assume it doesn’t work with Android. We imagine that plenty will be said online about the mic, once it starts appearing in the wild.
The mic features a headphone (3.5mm) jack, along with level dials and a pop-filter , which fits onto the base of the mic. Also provided is a stand mount with industry standard 3/8” thread, desktop tripod stand, and a pouch for storage of the microphone when not in use.
