Next Generation: AudioBox
PreSonus has introduced the next generation of its AudioBox series with iOne (entry-level) & iTwo (with MIDI). The new AudioBox’s stretch mobile computing slightly further with the addition of an iPad app, but you’ll have to wait little longer if you’re looking for an Android release.
The AudioBox’s iPad Capture (US$9.99 with up to 32 tracks) & Capture Duo (free and has two tracks) apps allow you to record to 24-bit, 96 kHz fidelity, and include basic mixing & editing as well as an integrated metronome. As for desktop/laptop computing, both will work with any recording software that supports Core Audio (Mac) or ASIO (Windows) and include the Studio One Artist DAW, along with a free account to Nimbit, for online music distribution.
The marketing people at PreSonus tell us that the AudioBox iOne is USB (2.0) powered, with a separate instrument & mic input (one of each), whilst the AudioBox iTwo offers two combo mic and switchable line/instrument inputs. Both feature Class A mic preamplifiers with phantom power and 24-bit, up to 96 kHz converters with 105 dB of dynamic range. The DACs feed balanced ¼-inch, line-level outputs and a headphone output with independent level control. The AudioBox iTwo also includes MIDI In and Out. Each interface has an internal analog mixer with zero-latency monitoring, enabling you to monitor recorded tracks and overdubs without audible delay and both feature a metal chassis, knobs, with jacks secured directly to the enclosure to reduce strain on the internal circuit board.
AudioBox iOne:
- 1 microphone input with low-noise, high-headroom, Class A mic preamplifier and +48V phantom power
- 1 instrument input
- 2 balanced ¼” TRS main line-level outputs
- Stereo headphone output with independent level control
AudioBox iTwo:
- 2 microphone inputs with low-noise, high-headroom, Class A mic preamplifiers and +48V phantom power
- 2 switchable line/instrument inputs
- 2 balanced ¼” TRS main line-level outputs
- 1×1 MIDI In/Out
- Stereo headphone output with independent level control
As yet, there’s no word for how much you can expect to pay for either in Australia, but in the US, the iOne is selling for US$129. So take that, as you will.
