KEEPING YOUR BALANCE ON ICE

A&H ICE 16-D

We ran a review of the nifty Allen & Heath ICE-16 multi-recorder in Issue 93 and the unbalanced TS inputs and RCA outputs were worth mentioning, although the verdict was it didn’t cause any problems. Regardless, A&H says it has been listening to its customers and has now introduced the ICE-16D, an alternative version of the ICE-16 with the “D” denoting that its connections are fully balanced via a brace of D Sub connectors. Fitted into a compact 1U rack design, the ICE-16 allows performers and audio engineers to capture high quality multi-track recordings direct to a USB drive or memory stick at up to 24bit 48kHz resolution as a .wav file, or you can use it as a computer interface via USB or FireWire at 24 bit, 96kHz resolution. The unit is expandable, so you can link units together and synchronize recording of many channels. Signal and peak metering is provided for each channel and can be switched to show input or output. Headphone monitoring is also included and switches on each channel enable checking of individual or multiple channels. But of course, you already know all this other stuff because you’re subscribed to the magazine and you read Issue 93, right? If not – as unlikely as that would seem – more info is at www.allen-heath.com
