UA FLEXES SOME NEW PLUG-IN MUSCLE
Three new offerings from Universal Audio (UA) included in the latest UAD v7.1 version software. Flex Routing for the Apollo Audio Interface allows – no prizes for guessing – greater flexibility in signal routing. Inputs can be routed to hardware outputs, headphone bus routing, as well as selectable pre/post Aux send. Also packaged in UAD 7.1 (and available separately) are the new Millennia NSEQ-2 plug-in and Pultec Passive EQ Collection. By emulating Millennia’s exclusive Twin Topology circuit and Class A transformer-less circuitry, the Millennia NSEQ-2 plug-in offers a sonically neutral, analogue EQ that promises clarity and the ability to switch between an all-triode 300-volt vacuum tube signal path or an all-discrete JFET solid-state signal path.
The new Pultec collection revisits two Pultec EQs — the EQP-1A and MEQ-5 — and adds the HLF-3C filter. The EQP-1A Program EQ is renowned for bringing out individual frequency ranges without significantly altering neighbouring frequencies, remaining smooth and musical even with extreme levels of boost. With the companion MEQ-5 Mid-Range Equalizer, producers can tweak the mid-range thanks to its abundance of band overlap and unique filter interactions. Finally, the HLF-3C adds 12 dB per octave low and high cut filters, providing broad, retro-flavoured tone sculpting. More info and downloads at www.uaudio.com
