SCHOOL’S IN

We all know that music education in schools has long since gone beyond providing every kid with a chewed-up recorder and the teacher with a set of ear plugs. Many schools apply a sizeable budget to modern music equipment and the technology that goes with it. That all sounds great, but a problem can be that the poor teacher may be just as much in the dark about how all this stuff is supposed to work. Presonus has created a useful website dedicated to assisting music educators and while much of it refers to US-based curriculums there are also plenty of resources that classrooms the world over can use. You can download lesson plans, and videos are available on a range of common projects such as ‘Recording the school jazz band’ or ‘Making a demo’ — the kinds of projects undertaken in schools from Kathmandu to Connecticut. Of course, nothing escapes being associated with a Presonus product of some kind, and some videos are specific to Studio One, but you’d expect that and it doesn’t impact that much on the core, audio basics that are explained. The website is also a good resource for schools that simply can’t get access to this kind of equipment. See for yourself at www.musiced.presonus.com
